THE UN INSPECTOR
PROCESS

The UN Inspector, a modern retelling of 'The Government Inspector' by Nicholai Gogol is a farse rooted in miscommunication and misunderstanding that leads to chaos. When a British Businessman is mistaken for being an inspector for the UN in an incredibly corrupt dictatorship, hilarious chaos ensues.
Director Martha Geelan and myself set about creating a world for this hilarity to play out- a basis founded in truth to act as a springboard for chaos.
RESEARCH AND INSPIRATION

Streetwear in the 1990's in Britain was a great initial springboard for silhouette and fabric.
Exaggerated faux for and hard wear provided a key link to Russia.
Archival 1990's fur and lifestyle.

In depth research into historical (and farcical) politicians.
Newspaper clippings of historical political cartoons provided an insight into public perception.
A visual exploration into the wives of politicians and footballers.

Inspiration from exaggeration in character, examples including 'The Wind in the Willows'
Further inspiration came from hyperbolic characters such as Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
Combining historical references with contemporary politicians and their extreme characteristics.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

The design process began by creating illustrations in the style of 1990's political cartoons in an attempt to understand the public's perception of the farcical characters we meet in Gogol's play.
